Washington Cherry—and Apple—Heaven
Did you know that 65% of all the apples produced in the US come from Washington State? In fact, the Yakima Valley where Chukar is located is the largest apple producing region in Washington, according to the state's Apple Commission. Our area is ideal for growing cherries, apples, and wine grapes for the same reasons: rich soil, excellent irrigation, and an earlier and longer growing season.
While Chukar is best known for our cherries, we set out years ago to merge two of Washington's most famous crops into one tasty product and, thus, Cherry Apple Crisps were born. We start with freshly picked local apples, clean and slice them, then soak them in a magical blend of concentrated cherry juice and cinnamon.
We run the cherry-infused slices through the same air tunnels that dehydrate our cherries and we keep them in there until they become delightfully - and naturally - crisp without the use of added oil or sulfites.
You've heard the old adage: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." We think that is some sound advice! Here’s why: one large apple provides 20% of the recommended daily value of dietary fiber and 7% of your day’s potassium. Plus, apples contain no fat, sodium, and cholesterol!
And when you eat Cherry Apple Crisps made from the best local cherries and apples that Washington State has to offer, you are getting those nutritional benefits in one incredibly flavorful package.
